Using the <a href=\"https:\/\/youcontrol.market\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">YC Market<\/a> tool, YouControl R&#038;D \u0421entre experts <b>analysed the impact of women on supporting multiple business sectors in Ukraine<\/b> during the war year by continuing the operations of existing companies and opening new ones.<\/p>\n<p><!--kg-card-end: html--><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"areas-women-most-often-choose\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Areas_women_most_often_choose\"><\/span>Areas women most often choose<\/p>\n<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>According to the Unified State Register of Legal Entities, Individual Entrepreneurs and Public Organisations (USR), most women-owned companies (legal entities) as of March 1, 2023, are in the <strong>tourism sector<\/strong>. There are <strong>7,600<\/strong> such companies registered in Ukraine or <strong>51.7%<\/strong> of the total travel agencies. Educational activities took second place. <strong>3.5 thousand companies<\/strong> in the education sector are owned by women, which is <strong>49.3%<\/strong> of the market. The third place went to companies in the Real estate activities sector. Women own <strong>26.6 thousand companies<\/strong> in this sector, accounting for <strong>42.7%<\/strong> of the market. <\/p>\n<p>Instead, the most unpopular sector among women is water supply and disposal \u2013 <strong>1.3 thousand<\/strong> companies, 20.1% of the market. The construction sector is slightly better, with <strong>22.4 thousand<\/strong> women-owned companies (<strong>26.3% of the market<\/strong>). That is <strong>32.8%<\/strong> of all companies registered in the country. We considered the share of women-owned companies to compare the distribution by region. <\/p>\n<p>The most \u201cpopular\u201d region for women-owned businesses is the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea, with 11,000 companies registered there (companies could have been registered before the temporary occupation) which is 37.8% of all companies represented in the region. According to the Unified State Register, these companies are not in the process of dissolution, so de jure, their affiliation corresponds to the place of registration.<\/p>\n<p>The partially occupied <strong>Donetska oblast<\/strong> ranks second, with <strong>15,200<\/strong> women-owned companies, <strong>36%<\/strong> of all businesses in the region. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Mykolaivska, Odeska and Zaporizka<\/strong> oblasts are third, fourth and fifth in percentage distribution, with <strong>35%<\/strong>, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>most significant <\/strong>number of registered companies is expectedly in <strong>Kyiv<\/strong> \u2013 <strong>94.8 thousand companies<\/strong> with women owners are registered in the capital, but <strong>this is 31.2%<\/strong> of the total number of registered and operating companies in the city, which is below the national average.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>lowest<\/strong> share of companies is in <strong>Sumska<\/strong> <strong>oblast<\/strong>, where women own <strong>30.5%<\/strong> of all companies in the region.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"kg-card kg-image-card\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/youcontrol.market\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/990_440-1-.-1-.pngwp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1200_630-1-.pngwp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/990_440-.pngcontent\/images\/2023\/04\/data-src-image-4a09bba4-3a9f-4a76-b9c0-e9a3ba5b8227.png\" class=\"kg-image\" alt=\"Geographic distribution of women's influence among owners\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1080\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.youcontrol.market\/content\/images\/size\/w600\/2023\/04\/data-src-image-4a09bba4-3a9f-4a76-b9c0-e9a3ba5b8227.png 600w, https:\/\/blog.youcontrol.market\/content\/images\/size\/w1000\/2023\/04\/data-src-image-4a09bba4-3a9f-4a76-b9c0-e9a3ba5b8227.png 1000w, https:\/\/blog.youcontrol.market\/content\/images\/2023\/04\/data-src-image-4a09bba4-3a9f-4a76-b9c0-e9a3ba5b8227.png 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (min-width: 720px) 720px\"><\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"the-impact-of-the-full-scale-invasion\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_impact_of_the_full-scale_invasion\"><\/span>The impact of the full-scale invasion<br \/><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>russia\u2019s full-scale invasion of Ukraine has caused irreparable damage to our country. Recently, we talked about how the <a href=\"https:\/\/youcontrol.market\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/990_440-1-.-1-.pngwp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1200_630-1-.pngwp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/990_440-.pngbusiness-in-a-year-of-the-war\/\">dynamics of new businesses in Ukraine changed<\/a> after February 24, 2022. The impact of the war year has also affected the dynamics of women starting new companies: it has decreased by 4.4% compared to 2021. <\/p>\n<p>In terms of sectoral distribution, between February 24, 2022, and February 24, 2023, the <strong>education and healthcare sectors<\/strong> were the most noticeably replenished with new players: the presence of women-owned companies in each industry increased by <strong>4.1% and 7.8%<\/strong>, respectively, compared to the average share in the economy.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>education sector<\/strong> moved to the top spot, with <strong>95 companies<\/strong> created by women over the year, which is <strong>53.4% of the market<\/strong>. The <strong>healthcare sector<\/strong> took second place \u2013 <strong>49.3% (113 companies)<\/strong>. The top companies in terms of the share of firms founded by women were also in the <strong>Media and Entertainment<\/strong> industry<strong>. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The increase in the presence of companies in these sectors can be attributed to the growing demand for companies in these sectors. Education has become a necessity in the current environment due to the destruction of state educational institutions by the occupiers in the regions where the fiercest fighting occurs. The healthcare sector is one of the most urgent today for obvious reasons \u2013 due to active hostilities and regular massive missile attacks throughout the country, the need for healthcare has increased significantly.<\/p>\n<p>The significant increase in the share of newly established companies in the film production industry is also fascinating.
